Paulo Passos

Professor Associado e Curador

Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (2000), mestrado (2003) e doutorado (2008) em Ciências Biológicas (Zoologia) pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Foi Professor Visitante (2008-2010) no Setor de Herpetologia do Departamento de Vertebrados do Museu Nacional. Foi Pesquisador Científico do Instituto Butantan entre junho de 2010 a maio de 2011. Atualmente é Professor Associado e Curador das Coleções de Répteis do Museu Nacional/UFRJ. Tem experiência na área de Zoologia, com ênfase em sistemática de Squamata, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: variação geográfica, ontogenia, morfologia, morfometria, taxonomia, filogenia e biogeografia. Em 2011, recebeu o premio The Joseph Slowinski Awards for Excelente in Snake Systematics, concedido pelo The Center of North American Herpetology sediado em Lawrence, Kansas. Foi Membro Afiliado da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (2014-2019); Membro do Snake Specialist Group da International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) desde 2011 e Membro do Conselho Consultivo Científico do Reptile Database desde 2014. É Editor de Área (Serpentes do Novo Mundo) do periódico Zootaxa desde 2013 e da Megataxa desde 2020; Editor Associado do Cuadernos de Herpetología desde 2017; Editor de área do South American Journal of Herpetology desde 2019. Foi Coordenador Adjunto do Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências Biológicas (Zoologia) da UFRJ de 2018-2022. Atualmente, é Chefe do Departamento de Vertebrados (2022-2024) e Vice Diretor Adjunto de Coleções do Museu Nacional (2020-presente).
